I’ve had several people recommend the Lost Fleet series to me. I’m a space opera fan, and space battles/military SF is an “easy read” for me. The books have proven to read pretty quickly.
Campbell has a great hook in this series with his hero, who has to reinstill tactics and an honorable code of conduct within ‘the good guys’. I’ve actually read the second in this series as well. The first arc goes six books and there are additional series for another fourteen books so I can keep going as long as I can find them!

At the end of last week I finished the sixth book in the first series (Invincible) and started with the first two in the second series. Turns out that I am a sucker for the hero with ethics and morals. It’s easy enough to gloss over the space battle physics setups in the same way that I ignore them for David Weber’s ‘Honorverse’.
Earlier this week, I read the 14th book in the series (Implacable), and last so far of the main storyline. At this point I don’t believe I am going to read the prequel series or the tangent/parallel view series about Midway system.
The main series stayed very consistent, and ‘formulaic’–but that’s not an insult. I was curious how the characters would grow and what would happen to the Alliance with everything Campbell was throwing at the First Fleet. Much of my curiosity was addressed, but there is one glaring thing extant that could have been addressed that has not been. Maybe that will be what gets Campbell to write more in this series.
I can’t remember who recommended this series to me (although I believe it was two years ago at Balticon). I thank them here! 🙂
